State: 36 more UP virus cases, only one new locally

State data Tuesday showed 36 more confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula, but Dickinson County's tally rose by only one and Iron County had no change.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' coronavirus website Tuesday added 36 new confirmed positives: seven in Delta County; six in Marquette and Baraga counties; five in Houghton County; four in Luce County; three in Mackinac County; two in Schoolcraft County; and one each in Dickinson, Alger and Chippewa counties. The state also listed two new coronavirus-related deaths in Delta County and one in Menominee County, though health officials for those counties already had reported those deaths.

Using only the state's figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 19,796 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 426 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 143 confirmed cases and 33 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 206 confirmed cases and 229 probable, two confirmed death and one probable death; Alger County, 321 confirmed, 192 probable and two deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 333 confirmed cases and 79 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 408 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 439 confirmed cases and 244 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 657 confirmed cases, 123 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 974 confirmed cases and 68 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,032 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,066 confirmed cases and 1,386 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,780 confirmed cases, 323 probable and 40 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,385 confirmed cases and 331 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,502 confirmed cases, 605 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,323 confirmed cases and 672 probable, 74 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,227 confirmed cases, 811 probable and 60 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Tuesday posted 1,271 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 878,125. The state Tuesday had 83 deaths attributed to the virus -- including 27 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS -- to reach 18,710.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services' COVID-19 data site Tuesday had eight new confirmed positives in Marinette County, three in Vilas County and two in Iron County.

The DHS on Tuesday had Marinette County with 4,189 confirmed cases, 466 probable cases and 65 deaths, four probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,271 confirmed, 148 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 961 confirmed, 79 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 580 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 448 confirmed, 54 probable and 13 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 481 new positives Tuesday for a total of 606,755 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted 13 new deaths Tuesday to reach 6,971.
