Another single-digit increase in UP virus positives

State data Friday showed three new confirmed virus positives in the Upper Peninsula, all in Chippewa County.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website also lowered Delta County’s confirmed case count by one; the county’s health department had reported the reduction Thursday.

Using only the figures from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 20,073 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 440 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Friday had Keweenaw County at 142 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 226 confirmed cases and 255 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 323 confirmed, 195 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 354 confirmed cases and 84 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 421 confirmed, 61 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 459 confirmed cases and 257 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 694 confirmed cases, 126 probable and 38 deaths; Iron County, 984 confirmed cases and 69 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,043 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 23 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,091 confirmed cases and 1,417 probable, and 28 deaths, six probable; Menominee County, 1,795 confirmed cases, 331 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,410 confirmed cases and 343 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,532 confirmed cases, 607 probable, 35 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,344 confirmed cases and 713 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,255 confirmed cases, 822 probable and 62 deaths, one probable. State figures are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday posted 40 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 893,949. The state Friday had 15 new deaths attributed to the virus to reach 19,707.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site’s only change Friday was to switch a confirmed positive in Marinette County to a probable.

As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin on Friday added 62 new positives for a total of 612,507 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded seven new deaths Friday to reach 7,280.
