Crash kills one in Marinette County

MARINETTE, Wis. — A 59-year-old Suamico, Wis., man died Friday evening in the burning wreckage of his dump truck after rear-ending a farm tractor that was towing a grain drill on U.S. 141 in the town of Beaver, said Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve.

Randy S. Gawryleski was northbound and towing a loader when he struck the northbound tractor a half-mile south of County P at about 8:50 p.m. The dump truck started on fire and Gawryleski was pronounced dead at the scene by a county medical examiner, Sauve said.

The driver of the tractor and his juvenile male passenger were not injured.

Northbound traffic on U.S. 141 was detoured for several hours during the investigation and cleanup. Assisting the sheriff’s office were the Wisconsin State Patrol; Crivitz and Coleman police; fire departments from Pound, Grover/Porterfield, Brazeau and Crivitz; and the Marinette County Highway Department.

The crash remains under investigation. It was the county’s third traffic fatality in 2021, Sauve said.
