Fatal crash victims ID’d

MARQUETTE — Police have released the names of two people who died after the vehicle they were in crashed and caught fire in Marquette Township early Saturday.

Candice Rajala, 41, of Marquette, and Eric Roycraft, 49, of Wrightstown, Wis., were killed in the single-vehicle crash on County Road 550 in Marquette Township, according to an updated news release from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the crash just before 1 a.m. Saturday after a southbound 2020 Tesla veered off the roadway to the right, struck a power pole and continued a short distance before stopping at the tree line, where it became engulfed in flames.

Rajala and Roycraft were pronounced dead at the site. Alcohol and excessive speed are believed to have factored in the crash, the release stated.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and Michigan State Police.
