IRON MOUNTAIN — The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 50 again will organize the annual community fireworks show set to take place at dusk Sunday, July 4, from Millie Hill on Iron Mountain’s east side.
No rain date will be set if inclement weather forces cancellation of the fireworks.
“This year’s show has been redesigned in its presentation and also to include a new variety of international shells, which will make it even more spectacular than last year,” said Michael Laydon, fireworks program organizer and fundraiser.
The impressive program requires a sizable budget. Although the cities of Iron Mountain and Kingsford, as well as Breitung Township, do contribute — monetarily, with manpower or both — this is not a municipally sponsored event. A majority of the funding comes from individuals and businesses.
Again this year, the Iron Mountain Fire Department will be part of the fundraising efforts as they walk the Independence Day parade route with their “Fill the Boot” campaign, in which donations are placed in a firefighter’s boot.
Tadych’s Family Market and Super One Foods also will do their usual fundraising efforts.
“Would you please consider supporting this community event with a donation of whatever you feel is appropriate? This will help defray the costs of not only the fireworks but also costs incurred for staffing and insuring the event,” Laydon said. “We would truly appreciate whatever amount you can give.”
Check for the program can be made out to “SAL 2021 Fireworks Fund” and mailed to SAL 2021 Fireworks Fund, P.O. Box 1046, Iron Mountain, MI 49801.
“Thank you for your past and current support,” Laydon said. “Enjoy the show and please be safe.”
