State data shows Dickinson has UP’s only new virus case

Dickinson County had the only new COVID-19 positive reported in the Upper Peninsula on Wednesday, according to state data.

Across the border, Wisconsin added only 25 new cases statewide, none of them listed in the five counties in this region.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Wednesday also listed a virus-related death in Baraga County. Using only the state’s figures, the U.P. as of Wednesday has had 20,053 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 439 deaths.

The MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 142 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 226 confirmed cases and 255 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 322 confirmed, 195 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 354 confirmed cases and 85 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 421 confirmed, 61 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 457 confirmed cases and 256 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 691 confirmed cases, 125 probable and 38 deaths; Iron County, 983 confirmed cases and 69 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,043 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 23 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,086 confirmed cases and 1,413 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,795 confirmed cases, 330 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,409 confirmed cases and 343 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,530 confirmed cases, 607 probable, 35 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,343 confirmed cases and 713 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,251 confirmed cases, 821 probable and 61 deaths, one probable. State figures are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday posted 179 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 892,830. The state Wednesday had four new deaths attributed to the virus to reach 19,578.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday had Marinette County with 4,234 confirmed cases, 476 probable cases and 67 deaths, six probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,289 confirmed, 147 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 965 confirmed, 79 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 584 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 452 confirmed, 55 probable and 13 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin has had a total of 611,844 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted 18 new deaths Wednesday to reach 7,230.
