NORWAY -- The Jake Menghini Museum of Norway tonight will be the site of the Norway City Band concert.
This event takes place outdoors with an ice cream social starting at 6 p.m. and the concert at 7.
For a donation, the museum partners will serve ice cream sundaes topped with a choice of toppings, including Pellegrini Farm strawberries. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and maybe a blanket, as the night may be cool.
The Norway City Band is reputed to be the oldest city band in Michigan to be continuing performances, starting in 1882.
During the summer months, the band performs every other Tuesday at the City Band Shell, but the museum hosts one concert that brings in the largest crowd of the summer. The City Band is under the direction of state Sen. Ed McBroom.
One of the band members, Don Johnson, has been playing in the band since he was in his teens and now he's in his 90s.
Ron and Jacki Menghini, nephew of Jake, will be at the museum this evening selling their famous "Matilda's Elephant Ears."
The Jake Menghini Museum is at 105 Odill Drive, the first exit after the viaduct going east in Norway. Handicap parking is available along with overflow parking at the Norway Evangelical Covenant Church.
