CF’s Crystal Theatre to stay open despite virus exposure

Officials say they’ve taken safety steps, consulted with DIDHD

CRYSTAL FALLS — Officials with the Crystal Theatre in Crystal Falls said Wednesday they have disinfected all surfaces and taken other steps after learning a person who attended a performance Friday evening later tested positive for COVID-19.

In a news release, theater manager Angie Dohl said they have “been given a green light to move forward with scheduled events,” including their Third Thursday performance at 7 p.m. today by classical guitarist Thomas Niebrzydowski and vocal group One Voice.

“This seems to be an isolated incident,” Dohl said in the news release.

According to the statement, the theater was informed Monday “that a fully vaccinated person became symptomatic on their way home from the Friday evening performance at Crystal Theatre and tested positive for COVID on Monday morning.”

They contacted the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, which advised “that due to the number of people in attendance on Friday night that a public announcement was prudent.” The DIDHD put out that advisory about possible exposure Tuesday.

The statement noted the theater has been vacant for several days after Friday’s event and all common surfaces were cleaned, as has been done after every performance.

The theater required all staff or volunteers to either mask or provide proof of vaccination when the venue reopened in June, according to the news release.

“If you would like us to mask-up while interacting with you, just let us know,” Dohl stated, adding that extra ushers will help with socially distanced seating and navigating entering and exiting the facility. Masks and sanitation stations are available as well.

Tonight’s performer, Niebrzydowski, is the owner of Major 10th School of Music in Iron Mountain who plays classical and other guitar styles from around the globe. One Voice sings hits from the ’40s through the ’70s. Vocalists are Jane Adams, Bee Stafford, Patsy Peterson and Punner Franzene, accompanied by George Peterson, aka “The Band.”

On Friday, the Dan McGuinness Band will play at 7 p.m. Central time. This Chicago-based four-piece band re-creates the Creedence Clearwater Revival catalog, from favorites such as “Bad Moon Rising,” “Proud Mary,” “Fortunate Son” and “Who’ll Stop the Rain” as well as deeper cuts like “Bootleg” and “It Came Out Of The Sky.”

More information on the performances is available at www.thecrystaltheatre.org. Advance tickets are available online or can be purchased at the door.

Starting at $3.50/week.
