Eight more virus cases in Dickinson, four in Iron

Florence County has 3rd exposure site

Local health officials Thursday reported eight new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County and four in Iron County in the past week.

Also Thursday, Florence County added a third potential coronavirus exposure site, at a grocery store in Florence, Wis.

The Florence County Health Department was notified Wednesday that from July 17 to 19, an unvaccinated person later confirmed COVID-19 positive was at Pat’s Foods store in Florence, Wis., while in the infectious period, said Annette Seibold, health officer for the county.

“If you visited or worked, have had close contact with someone who visited or worked at Pat’s, and have since experienced a fever, cough or shortness of breath after being at the facility, contact your health care provider and inform them of a potential exposure to a confirmed case,” Seibold stated in a news release Thursday.

The department had advised Wednesday of a potential COVID-19 exposure July 10 at Barb’s Café in Florence, Wis., and Annie’s Trading Post in the Keyes Lake area.

The health department also recommends those who are unvaccinated consider getting vaccinated to decrease the potential spread of coronavirus in the area.

In addition to the new confirmed positives, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department in its Facebook post Thursday afternoon listed two more probable cases in Dickinson County and two considered recovered from the virus. Iron County had one probable case and one recovery.

The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 2,432 confirmed positives and 349 probable cases, with 2,692 recovered, 72 deaths and 17 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 1,002 confirmed cases and 73 probables, with 1,009 recovered, 50 deaths and 16 active cases.

The DIDHD in June cut back to only one COVID-19 update a week as the pace of local coronavirus activity slowed.

No new Michigan statewide data was available Thursday, as the Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website now is updated only twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had three new confirmed positives in Marinette County and one each in Iron and Vilas counties.

The DHS COVID-19 data site Thursday had Marinette County with 4,245 confirmed cases, 477 probable cases and 68 deaths, six probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,299 confirmed, 149 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 971 confirmed, 82 probable and 24 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 592 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 457 confirmed, 56 probable and 13 deaths.
