State shows two more virus cases in Iron, one in Dickinson

State data Friday added two new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Iron County and one in Dickinson County in the past three days.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website listed 25 new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula since its last update Tuesday: 10 in Gogebic County; six in Chippewa County; two in both Iron and Mackinac counties; and one each in Dickinson, Marquette, Delta, Schoolcraft and Luce counties. No new deaths were recorded.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 20,173 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 442 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Friday had Keweenaw County at 142 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 227 confirmed cases and 254 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 323 confirmed, 196 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 355 confirmed cases and 84 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 423 confirmed, 61 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 461 confirmed cases and 256 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 695 confirmed cases, 128 probable and 39 deaths; Iron County, 994 confirmed cases and 70 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,073 confirmed cases and 364 probable, 23 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,114 confirmed cases and 1,424 probable, and 28 deaths, six probable; Menominee County, 1,803 confirmed cases, 330 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,415 confirmed cases and 345 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,536 confirmed cases, 607 probable, 35 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,347 confirmed cases and 714 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,265 confirmed cases, 826 probable and 63 deaths, one probable. State figures are updated regularly but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday added 881 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since its last update Tuesday for a total to date of 897,598. The state Friday had 16 new deaths attributed to the virus — including seven that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing — to reach 19,848.

The state this month began posting new COVID data only twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday had only one new confirmed positive, in Vilas County.

The DHS COVID-19 data site Friday had Marinette County with 4,240 confirmed cases, 477 probable cases and 67 deaths, six probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,298 confirmed, 149 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 967 confirmed, 82 probable and 24 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 590 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 20 probable; and Florence County, 456 confirmed, 55 probable and 13 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated regularly but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin on Friday had 184 new positives for a total of 614,597 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded six new deaths Friday to reach 7,372.

The DHS no longer updates its coronavirus numbers on weekends, so its next report for Wisconsin will be Monday.
