State: Six new virus cases in Iron, five in Dickinson

State data Tuesday showed six new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Iron County and five in Dickinson County in the past four days.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website showed in the U.P. nine more confirmed positives in Delta County since Friday, six in Iron County, five in Dickinson County, three in Houghton and Gogebic counties and two in Menominee and Chippewa counties; Mackinac County’s count was reduced by one.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 20,256 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 445 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 142 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 227 confirmed cases and 255 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 323 confirmed, 196 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 355 confirmed cases and 84 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 424 confirmed, 63 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 464 confirmed cases and 256 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 695 confirmed cases, 128 probable and 39 deaths; Iron County, 1,004 confirmed cases and 72 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,083 confirmed cases and 364 probable, 24 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,122 confirmed cases and 1,432 probable, and 29 deaths, six probable; Menominee County, 1,806 confirmed cases, 333 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,432 confirmed cases and 345 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,547 confirmed cases, 609 probable, 35 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,366 confirmed cases and 719 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,266 confirmed cases, 832 probable and 63 deaths, one probable. State figures are updated regularly but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Tuesday had 1,762 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan, or an average of 441 per day since its last update Friday, for a total to date of 901,683. The state Tuesday added 19 deaths attributed to the virus — including 15 that occurred earlier but were later verified through a vital records review — to reach 19,902.

The state earlier this month began posting new COVID data only twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday had six more confirmed cases in Forest County since Friday, four in Marinette County, three in Iron and Vilas counties and one in Florence County.

The DHS COVID-19 data site Tuesday had Marinette County with 4,250 confirmed cases, 481 probable cases and 68 deaths, seven probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,302 confirmed, 149 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 979 confirmed, 82 probable and 24 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 594 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 459 confirmed, 55 probable and 13 deaths.

Wisconsin on Tuesday had 1,795 new positives since Friday for a total of 618,298 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state has recorded 7,340 deaths attributed to the virus.
