State: Two more virus cases in UP, one death in Marquette
State data Friday showed only two more confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula for the day, in Marquette and Chippewa counties, along with a new virus-related death in Marquette County.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website also reduced Mackinac County’s confirmed positive count by one.
Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 20,097 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 442 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Friday had Keweenaw County at 142 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 226 confirmed cases and 255 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 323 confirmed, 196 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 354 confirmed cases and 84 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 421 confirmed, 61 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 458 confirmed cases and 256 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 695 confirmed cases, 128 probable and 39 deaths; Iron County, 985 confirmed cases and 69 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,044 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 23 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,097 confirmed cases and 1,418 probable, and 28 deaths, six probable; Menominee County, 1,799 confirmed cases, 331 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,412 confirmed cases and 343 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,536 confirmed cases, 607 probable, 35 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,345 confirmed cases and 712 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,260 confirmed cases, 828 probable and 63 deaths, one probable. State figures are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Friday had 101 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 894,957. The state had no new deaths attributed to the virus Friday and actually revised the overall toll by four to 19,754.
The MDHHS no longer updates virus figures on Saturdays and Sundays and will not post new numbers Monday due to the holiday for government workers. The next update will be Tuesday. Starting that day, the state will post new COVID data only twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday had two new confirmed positives in Vilas County and one in Marinette County.

As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Wisconsin on Friday added 85 new positives for a total of 612,994 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded one new death Friday to reach 7,315.
