DIDHD: 23 new virus cases in Iron County, 17 in Dickinson

Local health officials Thursday morning reported 23 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Iron County in the past week, while Dickinson County added 17 more cases.

Across the Wisconsin border, that state’s COVID-19 data sites Thursday showed 20 more confirmed cases in Marinette County, bringing the number since Monday to 53.

In addition to the new confirmed positives, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department in its Facebook post listed 22 new probable coronavirus cases in Dickinson County and one probable in Iron County. Dickinson County also had 14 people considered recovered from the virus and Iron County 10 recoveries.

The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 2,491 confirmed positives and 422 probable cases, with 2,710 recovered, 72 deaths and 131 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 1,046 confirmed cases and 76 probables, with 1,030 recovered, 50 deaths and 42 active cases.

The DIDHD in June cut back to only one COVID-19 update a week when the pace of local coronavirus activity slowed to the point that by July 1 Iron County had only two active cases. But the arrival of the delta variant in the region has triggered a new surge.

No new Michigan statewide data was available Thursday, as the Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website is updated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday added the 20 new confirmed positives in Marinette County and six each in Forest and Vilas counties.

The DHS COVID-19 data site Thursday had Marinette County with 4,438 confirmed cases, 555 probable cases and 68 deaths, seven probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,369 confirmed, 154 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,035 confirmed, 92 probable and 24 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 614 confirmed, 121 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 461 confirmed, 60 probable and 13 deaths.
