DIDHD: Six more virus positives in Dickinson County
Local health officials Thursday posted six new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County and one in Iron County in the past week.
In addition to the new confirmed positives, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department in its Facebook post Thursday afternoon listed four people now considered recovered from the virus in Dickinson County, while Iron County had one new probable case.
The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 2,448 confirmed positives and 352 probable cases, with 2,696 recovered, 72 deaths and 32 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 1,009 confirmed cases and 75 probables, with 1,010 recovered, 50 deaths and 24 active cases.
The DIDHD in June cut back to only one COVID-19 update a week when the pace of local coronavirus activity slowed.
In the region, Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties on Thursday reported that Delta County had its first confirmed case of the highly contagious delta variant. The PHDM added that the delta variant now has been found in Dickinson, Marquette, Houghton and Gogebic counties.
The PHDM endorsed recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines that recommend wearing masks indoors in public, even for fully vaccinated individuals, and having K-12 schools resume wearing masks in class to reduce transmission.
No new Michigan statewide data was available Thursday, as the Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website now is updated only twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had five new confirmed positives in Vilas County and four in Marinette and Iron counties.
The DHS COVID-19 data site Thursday had Marinette County with 4,270 confirmed cases, 486 probable cases and 68 deaths, seven probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,329 confirmed, 149 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 983 confirmed, 84 probable and 24 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 604 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 458 confirmed, 55 probable and 13 deaths.
Wisconsin added 1,548 new positives Thursday for a total of 626,884 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state to date. The state recorded three new deaths to reach 7,453.
