Marinette County virus cases up by 33

State COVID-19 data sites Wednesday showed 33 more confirmed positives since Monday in Wisconsin’s Marinette County, while neighboring Menominee County in the Upper Peninsula added 18 new cases.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday also listed 10 new confirmed cases in Iron County and six in Dickinson County for the two-day period.

The MDHHS data site had 132 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Monday, with only Keweenaw County not adding to its numbers: 18 in Delta and Menominee counties; 14 in Houghton County; 13 in Marquette County; 10 each in Iron, Schoolcraft and Alger counties; nine in Gogebic County; eight in Baraga County; seven in Mackinac County; six in Dickinson County; four in Ontonagon County; three in Chippewa County; and two in Luce County. Houghton County had a new death attributed to the virus.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 21,155 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 449 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 146 confirmed cases and 33 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 235 confirmed cases and 263 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 343 confirmed, 206 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 381 confirmed cases and 97 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 456 confirmed, 61 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 504 confirmed cases and 274 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 727 confirmed cases, 129 probable and 40 deaths; Iron County, 1,038 confirmed cases and 73 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,147 confirmed cases and 370 probable, 24 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,167 confirmed cases and 1,485 probable, and 29 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,916 confirmed cases, 408 probable and 42 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,479 confirmed cases and 415 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,647 confirmed cases, 626 probable, 36 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,622 confirmed cases and 770 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,347 confirmed cases, 871 probable and 64 deaths, one probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday had 4,326 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of about 2,163 per day for the two days, for a total to date of 937,720. The state Wednesday added 38 deaths attributed to the virus — including 10 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 20,161.

The state now provides updated COVID-19 figures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site since Monday added the 33 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, seven in Forest and Vilas counties, two in Iron County and one in Florence County.

The DHS COVID-19 data site Wednesday had Marinette County with 4,418 confirmed cases, 552 probable cases and 68 deaths, seven probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,363 confirmed, 154 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,029 confirmed, 91 probable and 24 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 614 confirmed, 121 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 461 confirmed, 60 probable and 13 deaths.

Wisconsin added 6,787 new positives in the state since Monday for a total of 651,341 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 42 more virus-related deaths over the two days to reach 7,558.
