State: 132 new virus cases in UP in past two days, 10 in Iron County

State data Friday showed 132 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Wednesday, with Iron County accounting for 10 of the cases and Dickinson County five.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Friday reported 27 new confirmed positives in Delta County, 17 in Houghton County, 14 in Menominee and Marquette counties, 13 in Mackinac County, 10 in Iron County, nine in Baraga and Chippewa counties, five in Dickinson County, four in Alger and Keweenaw counties, three in Ontonagon County, two in Schoolcraft County and one in Gogebic County. Only Luce County did not have a new case among the U.P.’s 15 counties in the past two days.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 21,287 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 449 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Friday had Keweenaw County at 150 confirmed cases and 33 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 235 confirmed cases and 264 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 347 confirmed, 206 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 383 confirmed cases and 97 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 459 confirmed, 61 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 517 confirmed cases and 271 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 736 confirmed cases, 130 probable and 40 deaths; Iron County, 1,048 confirmed cases and 75 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,148 confirmed cases and 370 probable, 24 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,176 confirmed cases and 1,489 probable, and 29 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,930 confirmed cases, 412 probable and 42 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,484 confirmed cases and 426 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,664 confirmed cases, 629 probable, 36 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,649 confirmed cases and 775 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,361 confirmed cases, 876 probable and 64 deaths, one probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday had 3,958 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Wednesday, or an average of about 1,979 per day for the two days, for a total to date of 941,678. The state Friday added 69 deaths attributed to the virus — including 42 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 20,230.

The state now provides updated COVID-19 figures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday added 12 new confirmed positives in Forest County, four in Marinette County and one in Vilas County. The state recorded a new death in Vilas County as well.

The DHS COVID-19 data site Friday had Marinette County with 4,442 confirmed cases, 564 probable cases and 68 deaths, seven probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,370 confirmed, 154 probable and 43 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,047 confirmed, 90 probable and 24 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 614 confirmed, 121 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 461 confirmed, 60 probable and 13 deaths.

Wisconsin added 2,304 new positives in the state Friday for a total of 655,667 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded seven more virus-related deaths to reach 7,577.
