State: Three new virus positives in Dickinson, 29 across UP

State data Tuesday showed three new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County but none in Iron County in the past four days.

Across the border, Wisconsin virus data indicated 10 more confirmed cases in both Marinette and Vilas counties. That state has seen a surge in COVID activity since the delta variant began circulating, although there was no indication these new cases are the variant.

In Michigan, the state Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Tuesday had 29 new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula for the four-day period since Friday: nine in Delta County, six in Marquette County, four each in Menominee and Gogebic counties, the three in Dickinson County, two in Chippewa County and one in Houghton County. The state also recorded a new virus-related death in Marquette County.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 20,319 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 446 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 142 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 228 confirmed cases and 255 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 323 confirmed, 196 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 356 confirmed cases and 85 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 426 confirmed, 62 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 464 confirmed cases and 258 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 697 confirmed cases, 130 probable and 39 deaths; Iron County, 1,005 confirmed cases and 72 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,088 confirmed cases and 369 probable, 24 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,128 confirmed cases and 1,436 probable, and 29 deaths, six probable; Menominee County, 1,815 confirmed cases, 338 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,438 confirmed cases and 346 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,548 confirmed cases, 610 probable, 35 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,384 confirmed cases and 722 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,277 confirmed cases, 830 probable and 64 deaths, one probable. State figures are updated regularly but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Tuesday had 2,605 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan, or an average of 651 per day for the four days, for a total to date of 906,538. The state Tuesday added 26 deaths attributed to the virus — including 10 that occurred earlier but were later verified through a vital records review — to reach 19,947.

The state in July began posting new COVID data only twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday had the 10 new confirmed positives in both Marinette and Vilas counties and one each in Florence and Forest counties.

The DHS COVID-19 data site Tuesday had Marinette County with 4,268 confirmed cases, 482 probable cases and 68 deaths, seven probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,321 confirmed, 149 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 982 confirmed, 82 probable and 24 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 600 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 458 confirmed, 55 probable and 13 deaths.

Wisconsin has had 3,275 new positives since Friday for a total of 624,223 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded eight new deaths to reach 7,447.
