Missing man’s body found in Hogback Mountain area

AARON McGEORGE

MARQUETTE — A helicopter crew Thursday located the body of 40-year-old Aaron McGeorge, a Marquette Township man who had been missing since Monday, just 200 yards northeast of where his truck was found parked in the area of Hogback Mountain.

Investigators believe McGeorge succumbed to injuries sustained in a fall from a rock bluff, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office said.

No foul play is suspected and an autopsy will be conducted today through the Marquette County Medical Examiner’s office.

The body was located at 11:35 a.m. Eastern time on the east side of County Road 550 and north of Sugarloaf Mountain by a Blackhawk Medivac helicopter crew from the Wisconsin Air National Guard.

Numerous factors made the search difficult, authorities said, including rugged terrain, no cell phone service, and the victim having no device that could be tracked.

Agencies involved in a search since Tuesday included the sheriff’s office, Marquette County Search and Rescue, Alger County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit, Michigan State Police K9 units, Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, U.S. Coast Guard, Wisconsin Air National Guard, and Marquette Township EMS.

Starting at $3.50/week.
