DIDHD: Dickinson has 101 new confirmed virus cases in past week

Local health officials late Thursday morning reported 101 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County in the past week, plus 54 probable cases, bringing the county’s total number of active coronavirus cases to 537.

Iron County has added 18 new confirmed positives since Sept. 16, along with two probable cases, according to the DIDHD’s Facebook post. Dickinson County did have 40 people now considered recovered from the virus and Iron County 16 recovered cases.

The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 2,739 confirmed positives and 677 probable cases to date, with 2,806 recovered, 73 deaths and 537 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 1,147 confirmed cases and 104 probables, with 1,058 recovered, 50 deaths and 143 active cases.

The Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday had 34 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 10 adults in intensive care and two on ventilators, according to Frontline UPdates JIC, a group of health care communication professionals from the U.P.

Statewide, 1,438 adults are hospitalized for COVID-19 — plus 24 pediatric patients — with 403 adults in ICU beds and 209 on ventilators.

State numbers for the Upper Peninsula were not available Thursday, as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services updates its COVID-19 data site on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had 23 new confirmed cases in Marinette County, 15 in Forest County, 13 in Vilas County and one in Florence County.

The DHS data site Thursday had Marinette County with 4,791 confirmed cases, 728 probable cases and 69 deaths, eight probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,582 confirmed, 163 probable and 45 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,222 confirmed, 94 probable and 26 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 661 confirmed, 138 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 480 confirmed, 74 probable and 13 deaths.

Wisconsin data Thursday showed 3,061 more positives for a total of 710,145 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 19 more virus-related deaths Thursday to reach 7,895.
