Fire damages structure on River Avenue
IRON MOUNTAIN — No injuries were reported in a structure fire Friday night on River Avenue.
The Iron Mountain Fire Department was called just after 9 p.m. Friday to 915 River Ave., with the first engine and crew arriving within three minutes to find moderate smoke pushing from the attic area of the 2 1/2-story residence, according to a news release from Jeff Friedenstab, IMFD deputy director of fire services.
The fire officer and a firefighter entered the structure for an initial search but found no one inside.
The fire was declared under control at 9:43 p.m., but crews remained to extinguish hot spots. All units cleared at 11:43 p.m.
A total of eight firefighters staffed two engines and one ladder truck, plus a utility pickup responded to the fire. Assisting were the Iron Mountain Police Department, Integrity Care EMS, WE Energies, and DTE.
Damage estimated were unavailable, but the house was considered uninhabitable. The fire remains under investigation.
