State: 96 new virus cases in Marinette County

Wisconsin COVID-19 data indicates Marinette County has reported 96 new confirmed positives in the past two days.

Michigan’s coronavirus website Wednesday showed Marquette and Delta continue to lead the Upper Peninsula’s 15 counties in virus activity with 62 and 47 new confirmed cases, respectively, since the last update Monday. Dickinson County had 25 more positives.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday listed 311 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula for the two-day period: the 62 in Marquette County, 47 in Delta County, 28 in Menominee County, 27 in Mackinac County, 25 in Dickinson and Houghton counties, 23 in Schoolcraft and Chippewa counties, 14 in Baraga County, nine in Alger and Gogebic counties, eight in Iron County, six in Keweenaw County, three in Luce County and two in Ontonagon County. The state added a single virus-related death in both Chippewa and Houghton counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 24,426 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 475 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 179 confirmed cases and 35 probable, and three confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 267 confirmed cases and 325 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 448 confirmed, 267 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 467 confirmed cases and 154 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 506 confirmed, 63 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 675 confirmed cases and 350 probable, six deaths; Baraga County, 851 confirmed cases, 147 probable and 41 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 1,162 confirmed cases and 102 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,251 confirmed cases and 375 probable, 23 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,349 confirmed cases and 1,820 probable, and 31 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 2,262 confirmed cases, 612 probable and 44 deaths, four probable; Dickinson County, 2,804 confirmed cases and 724 probable, 60 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,884 confirmed cases, 652 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Delta County, 4,223 confirmed cases and 936 probable, 81 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 5,098 confirmed cases, 1,080 probable and 69 deaths, one probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday had 6,773 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of about 3,387 per day for the two days, for a total to date of 1,022,575. The state Wednesday added 100 deaths attributed to the virus — including 50 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 20,998.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday had the 96 new confirmed positives in Marinette County for the two-day period, plus 24 more in Vilas County, 14 in Forest County and five in Florence and Iron counties. Vilas County had a new death attributed to the virus as well.

The DHS data site Wednesday had Marinette County with 4,961 confirmed cases, 822 probable cases and 69 deaths, eight probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,646 confirmed, 165 probable and 46 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,276 confirmed, 96 probable and 27 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 672 confirmed, 138 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 486 confirmed, 81 probable and 13 deaths.

Wisconsin data Wednesday showed 5,871 more positives since Monday for a total of 724,681 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state Wednesday had recorded 49 more virus-related deaths for the two-day period to reach 7,979.
