State lists 77 more virus cases in UP in single day
State data Wednesday showed 77 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula in a day’s time, including eight more cases in Dickinson County and four in Iron County.
Across the Wisconsin border, Marinette County added 22 confirmed positives in one day and Florence County had eight more cases.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday listed new confirmed COVID-19 positives in all but one of the Upper Peninsula’s 15 counties: 22 in Marquette County; 12 in Delta County; eight in Dickinson County; seven in both Menominee and Baraga counties; four in Iron and Houghton counties; three in Chippewa County; two each in Schoolcraft, Mackinac, Alger and Gogebic counties; and one apiece in Luce and Keweenaw counties; Ontonagon County’s count was reduced by one. The state Wednesday also recorded virus-related deaths in Baraga and Chippewa counties.
Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 22,026 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 455 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 157 confirmed cases and 33 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 239 confirmed cases and 281 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 365 confirmed, 222 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 405 confirmed cases and 110 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 474 confirmed, 61 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 565 confirmed cases and 280 probable, four deaths; Baraga County, 772 confirmed cases, 142 probable and 41 deaths, one probable; Iron County, 1,093 confirmed cases and 85 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,178 confirmed cases and 371 probable, 24 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,207 confirmed cases and 1,559 probable, and 30 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 2,016 confirmed cases, 464 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Dickinson County, 2,539 confirmed cases and 510 probable, 60 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,700 confirmed cases, 634 probable, 37 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,792 confirmed cases and 818 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,524 confirmed cases, 929 probable and 65 deaths, one probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Wednesday had 2,364 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 964,317. The state Wednesday added 51 deaths attributed to the virus — including 27 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 20,447.
The state issues new COVID-19 figures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday had the 22 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 10 in Forest County, eight in Florence County, five in Iron County and four in Vilas County, which had a new death as well.
The DHS COVID-19 data site Wednesday had Marinette County with 4,523 confirmed cases, 612 probable cases and 69 deaths, eight probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,423 confirmed, 156 probable and 44 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,103 confirmed, 91 probable and 24 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 628 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 470 confirmed, 68 probable and 13 deaths.
Wisconsin added 1,976 new positives Wednesday for a total of 674,248 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 19 more virus-related deaths to reach 7,686.
