State: UP adds 211 virus cases in four days
Dickinson accounts for 32 new positives
State data Tuesday showed 211 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Friday, including 32 in Dickinson County, which also had another death attributed to the coronavirus, and 12 in Iron County.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Tuesday listed for the Upper Peninsula’s 15 counties over the past four days 45 new confirmed cases in Delta County, 36 in Marquette County, the 32 in Dickinson County, 19 in Mackinac County, 15 in Menominee County, 12 in Iron and Baraga counties, 11 in Gogebic County, 10 in Chippewa County; six in Alger County, four in Houghton and Keweenaw counties, two in Schoolcraft and Luce counties and one in Ontonagon County. Dickinson County had the only new virus-related death.
Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 21,950 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 453 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 156 confirmed cases and 33 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 238 confirmed cases and 276 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 363 confirmed, 216 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 403 confirmed cases and 105 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 475 confirmed, 61 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 563 confirmed cases and 280 probable, four deaths; Baraga County, 765 confirmed cases, 140 probable and 40 deaths, one probable; Iron County, 1,089 confirmed cases and 80 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,176 confirmed cases and 371 probable, 24 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,204 confirmed cases and 1,546 probable, and 29 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 2,009 confirmed cases, 449 probable and 42 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,531 confirmed cases and 494 probable, 60 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,696 confirmed cases, 634 probable, 37 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,780 confirmed cases and 809 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,502 confirmed cases, 920 probable and 65 deaths, one probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Tuesday had 6,313 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Friday, or an average of about 1,578 per day for the four days, for a total to date of 961,953. The state Tuesday added 29 deaths attributed to the virus — including 10 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 20,396.
The state now issues new COVID-19 figures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but provided an update this Tuesday because none was done Monday due to the Labor Day holiday.
The Upper Peninsula as of Monday had 22 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 10 adults in intensive care and three on ventilators, according to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, citing tracking data.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday had 20 new confirmed positives in Vilas County, 13 in Forest County, nine in Marinette County and three in Iron County.
The DHS COVID-19 data site Tuesday had Marinette County with 4,501 confirmed cases, 600 probable cases and 69 deaths, eight probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,419 confirmed, 155 probable and 43 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,093 confirmed, 90 probable and 24 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 623 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 462 confirmed, 65 probable and 13 deaths.
Wisconsin on Tuesday added 4,817 new positives over the past four days for a total of 672,272 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 15 more virus-related deaths since Friday to reach 7,667.
