DIDHD: 64 more virus positives in Dickinson, 35 in Iron

Local health officials Thursday reported 64 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County in the past week, plus 35 cases and a new coronavirus-related death in Iron County.

Dickinson County also had 48 probable cases since figures last were updated Oct. 14, while Iron County had two probables, according to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department.

Dickinson County did record 116 people now considered recovered from the virus and Iron County eight recoveries, the DIDHD listed in its Facebook post Thursday afternoon.

The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 3,038 confirmed positives and 919 probable cases to date, with 3,289 recovered, 81 deaths attributed to the virus and 587 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 1,293 confirmed cases and 120 probables, with 1,187 recovered, 53 deaths and 173 active cases.

The Upper Peninsula as of Thursday had 52 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 20 adults in intensive care and five on ventilators, according to Frontline UPdates JIC, a group of health care communication professionals from the U.P.

Statewide Thursday, 2,069 adults were hospitalized for COVID-19 — plus 20 pediatric patients — with 558 adults in ICU beds and 304 on ventilators.

State COVID-19 numbers for the Upper Peninsula were not available Thursday, as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services updates its coronavirus data site on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had 29 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 10 in Vilas County, five in Forest County and four in Iron County; Florence County’s count was reduced by four.

The DHS data site Thursday had Marinette County with 5,627 confirmed cases, 1,031 probable cases and 69 deaths, nine probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,874 confirmed, 169 probable and 50 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,399 confirmed, 109 probable and 27 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 715 confirmed, 171 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 524 confirmed, 106 probable and 14 deaths.

Wisconsin data Thursday showed 2,224 more positives in the state for a total of 775,142 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 19 more virus-related deaths to reach 8,312.
