DIDHD: Six more virus-related deaths in Dickinson

Local health officials Thursday reported six more coronavirus-related deaths and 70 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County in the past week, plus 50 cases and a death in Iron County.

Dickinson County also had 58 probable cases since figures last were updated Oct. 7, while Iron County had six probables, according to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department.

Dickinson County did record 236 people now considered recovered from the virus and Iron County 62 recoveries, the DIDHD listed in its Facebook post Thursday morning.

The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 2,974 confirmed positives and 871 probable cases to date, with 3,173 recovered, 81 deaths attributed to the virus and 591 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 1,258 confirmed cases and 118 probables, with 1,179 recovered, 52 deaths and 145 active cases.

The Upper Peninsula as of Thursday had 60 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 17 adults in intensive care and six on ventilators, according to Frontline UPdates JIC, a group of health care communication professionals from the U.P.

Statewide Thursday, 2,040 adults were hospitalized for COVID-19 — plus 28 pediatric patients — with 525 adults in ICU beds and 293 on ventilators.

State COVID-19 numbers for the Upper Peninsula were not available Thursday, as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services updates its coronavirus data site on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had 34 more confirmed positives in Marinette County, 14 and a new death in Vilas County, nine positives in Forest County, three in Florence County and one in Iron County.

The DHS data site Thursday had Marinette County with 5,408 confirmed cases, 983 probable cases and 69 deaths, nine probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,810 confirmed, 167 probable and 50 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,367 confirmed, 108 probable and 27 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 701 confirmed, 146 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 508 confirmed, 99 probable and 13 deaths.

Wisconsin data Thursday showed 2,614 more positives for a total of 761,892 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 13 more virus-related deaths Thursday to reach 8,230.
