Local data shows 3 virus deaths in Iron, 2 in Dickinson

Dickinson County recorded two more deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the past week and Iron County three deaths, local coronavirus case counts showed Thursday.

Dickinson County also had 49 new confirmed COVID-19 positives since Oct. 21, while Iron County added 26 cases, according to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department.

Dickinson County had 25 probable virus cases as well but reclassified 141 people as recovered from the virus. Iron County had 24 recoveries, the DIDHD listed in its Facebook post Thursday afternoon.

The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 3,087 confirmed positives and 944 probable cases to date, with 3,430 recovered, 83 deaths attributed to the virus and 518 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 1,319 confirmed cases and 120 probables, with 1,211 recovered, 56 deaths and 172 active cases.

The Upper Peninsula as of Thursday had 46 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 15 adults in intensive care and three on ventilators, according to Frontline UPdates JIC, a group of health care communication professionals from the U.P.

Statewide Thursday, 2,038 adults were hospitalized for COVID-19 — plus 37 pediatric patients — with 565 adults in ICU beds and 299 on ventilators.

State COVID-19 numbers for the Upper Peninsula were not available Thursday, as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services updates its coronavirus data site on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had 29 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 16 in Vilas County, five in Florence County, four in Iron County and three in Forest County.

The DHS data site Thursday had Marinette County with 5,802 confirmed cases, 1,083 probable cases and 71 deaths, nine probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,945 confirmed, 168 probable and 50 deaths, four probable; Forest County, 1,416 confirmed, 110 probable and 27 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 728 confirmed, 171 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 541 confirmed, 110 probable and 14 deaths.

Wisconsin data Thursday showed 2,138 more positives in the state for a total of 788,044 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 17 more virus-related deaths to reach 8,459.
