State: 278 more virus positives in UP region

State data Monday showed 29 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Menominee County, 18 more in Dickinson County and 15 in Iron County in the past three days.

Across the border in Wisconsin, that state added 50 confirmed cases in Marinette County for the same period.

Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Monday indicated 278 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Friday: 57 in Delta County, 49 in Marquette County, 29 in Menominee County, 27 in Houghton County, 25 in Gogebic County, 18 in Dickinson County, 17 in Chippewa County, 15 in Iron County, 13 in Schoolcraft County, nine in Alger County, eight in Mackinac County, six in Baraga County, two in Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties and one in Luce County. The state recorded a new virus-related death in both Marquette and Baraga counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 26,103 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 492 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Monday had Keweenaw County at 195 confirmed cases and 34 probable, and three confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 304 confirmed cases and 360 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 520 confirmed, 282 probable and three deaths, five probable; Ontonagon County, 521 confirmed, 64 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 545 confirmed cases and 178 probable, four deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 768 confirmed cases and 390 probable, seven deaths; Baraga County, 882 confirmed cases, 146 probable and 43 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,226 confirmed cases and 111 probable, 44 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,338 confirmed cases and 403 probable, 24 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,451 confirmed cases and 2,022 probable, and 35 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 2,421 confirmed cases, 696 probable and 44 deaths, four probable; Dickinson County, 2,927 confirmed cases and 825 probable, 62 deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 3,046 confirmed cases, 676 probable, 44 deaths and 10 probable; Delta County, 4,472 confirmed cases and 964 probable, 83 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 5,487 confirmed cases, 1,179 probable and 71 deaths, one probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Monday had 9,137 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Friday, or an average of about 3,046 per day for the three days, for a total to date of 1,064,557. The state Monday added 36 deaths attributed to the virus — including 18 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 21,349.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Monday had 50 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 28 in Vilas County, seven in Forest County, three in Iron County and two in Florence County.

The DHS data site Monday had Marinette County with 5,272 confirmed cases, 953 probable cases and 69 deaths, nine probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,776 confirmed, 166 probable and 47 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,346 confirmed, 107 probable and 27 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 695 confirmed, 145 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 498 confirmed, 87 probable and 13 deaths.

Wisconsin data Monday showed 5,200 more positives since Friday for a total of 754,054 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 44 more virus-related deaths in the three days to reach 8,151.
