State: UP has 374 new virus cases in past 2 days

Marinette County in Wisconsin has 36 more positives

State data Friday showed 28 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Menominee County, 23 more in Dickinson County and 16 in Iron County in the past two days.

Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Friday indicated 374 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Wednesday: 99 in Marquette County, 49 in Delta County, 34 in Houghton County, 28 in Menominee County, 25 in Mackinac County, 24 in Gogebic County, 23 in Dickinson County, 18 in Alger County, 16 in Iron County, 14 in Luce and Chippewa counties, 13 in Schoolcraft County, seven in Baraga County, six in Ontonagon County, four in Keweenaw County. The region had one new virus-related death, in Houghton County.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 25,825 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 490 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Friday had Keweenaw County at 193 confirmed cases and 34 probable, and three confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 303 confirmed cases and 359 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 511 confirmed, 282 probable and three deaths, five probable; Ontonagon County, 519 confirmed, 64 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 532 confirmed cases and 174 probable, four deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 760 confirmed cases and 385 probable, seven deaths; Baraga County, 876 confirmed cases, 148 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 1,211 confirmed cases and 110 probable, 44 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,313 confirmed cases and 405 probable, 24 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,434 confirmed cases and 1,997 probable, and 35 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 2,392 confirmed cases, 692 probable and 44 deaths, four probable; Dickinson County, 2,909 confirmed cases and 816 probable, 62 deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 3,019 confirmed cases, 668 probable, 44 deaths and 10 probable; Delta County, 4,415 confirmed cases and 964 probable, 83 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 5,438 confirmed cases, 1,172 probable and 70 deaths, one probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday had 8,409 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Wednesday, or an average of about 4,205 per day for the two days, for a total to date of 1,055,420. The state Friday added 82 deaths attributed to the virus — including 40 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 21,313.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday had 36 more confirmed positives in Marinette County, four in Forest County and one each in Vilas and Florence counties.

The DHS data site Friday had Marinette County with 5,222 confirmed cases, 933 probable cases and 69 deaths, nine probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,748 confirmed, 166 probable and 47 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,339 confirmed, 107 probable and 27 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 691 confirmed, 145 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 496 confirmed, 87 probable and 13 deaths.

Wisconsin data showed 3,052 more positives Friday for a total of 748,854 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 15 more virus-related deaths Friday to reach 8,107.
