DIDHD: Iron has 54 new virus cases, three more deaths

Iron County in the past week recorded 54 new confirmed COVID-19 positives along with three more deaths blamed on the coronavirus, while Dickinson County added 52 cases, local data showed Friday.

Dickinson County also has had 88 probable coronavirus cases since Nov. 4 and Iron County eight probables, according to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department.

Dickinson County did reclassify 115 people as recovered from the virus, while Iron County had 41 recovered cases, the DIDHD listed in its Facebook post Friday.

The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 3,185 confirmed positives and 1,072 probable cases to date, with 3,676 recovered, 85 deaths and 496 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 1,412 confirmed cases and 140 probables, with 1,281 recovered, 60 deaths and 211 active cases.

Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Friday indicated 422 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Wednesday: 141 in Houghton County, 72 in Marquette County, 43 in Delta County, 31 in Menominee County, 25 in Gogebic County, 21 in Dickinson County, 19 in Iron County, 15 in Chippewa County, 14 in Mackinac and Baraga counties, eight in Keweenaw County, seven in Alger County, five in Ontonagon County, four in Luce County and three in Schoolcraft County. The state added a virus-related death in Schoolcraft and Keweenaw counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 30,134 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 546 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 264 confirmed cases and 40 probable, and five confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 380 confirmed cases and 415 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 584 confirmed, 317 probable and four deaths, five probable; Ontonagon County, 590 confirmed, 70 probable and 22 deaths, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 666 confirmed cases and 246 probable, five deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 920 confirmed cases and 469 probable, 11 deaths and one probable; Baraga County, 1,110 confirmed cases, 190 probable and 44 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,412 confirmed cases and 135 probable, 50 deaths and 11 probable; Gogebic County, 1,495 confirmed cases and 413 probable, 25 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,699 confirmed cases and 2,389 probable, and 43 deaths, nine probable; Menominee County, 2,690 confirmed cases, 887 probable and 47 deaths, five probable; Dickinson County, 3,176 confirmed cases and 1,069 probable, 67 deaths and 17 probable; Houghton County, 3,869 confirmed cases, 789 probable, 46 deaths and 10 probable; Delta County, 5,017 confirmed cases and 1,129 probable, 92 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 6,262 confirmed cases, 1,405 probable and 81 deaths, four probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday had 15,878 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Wednesday, or an average of 7,939 for the two-day period, for a total to date of 1,188,678. This average includes lab results from a processing delay reported on Wednesday, according to the MDHHS. The state since Wednesday has added 83 deaths attributed to the virus — including 43 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 22,767.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday had 37 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 15 in Vilas County, nine in Forest County and one each in Florence and Iron counties.

The DHS data site Friday had Marinette County with 6,311 confirmed cases, 1,194 probable cases and 72 deaths, nine probable deaths; Vilas County, 3,070 confirmed, 173 probable and 56 deaths, four probable; Forest County, 1,459 confirmed, 119 probable and 29 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 749 confirmed, 181 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 554 confirmed, 118 probable and 14 deaths.

Wisconsin data Friday showed 3,189 more positives in the state for a total of 823,371 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 22 more virus-related deaths to reach 8,722.
