State: Iron County has two more virus deaths
State data Wednesday showed two more deaths blamed on COVID-19 in Iron County, which also had 14 new virus positives since Monday.
Across the border, Marinette County in Wisconsin has tallied 163 new confirmed coronavirus cases from Monday through Thursday, according to numbers on that state’s COVID-19 website.
Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday indicated 224 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Monday: 38 in Houghton County; 35 in Chippewa County; 26 in Marquette County; 24 in Delta County; 19 in Baraga County; 14 in Iron County; 13 in Schoolcraft County; 10 in Dickinson County; nine in Luce and Gogebic counties; eight in Menominee County; seven in Mackinac County; and four each in Alger, Ontonagon and Keweenaw counties. The state Wednesday also recorded four more virus-related deaths in Marquette County, the two more in Iron County and one in Ontonagon County.
Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 29,712 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 544 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 256 confirmed cases and 38 probable, and four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 376 confirmed cases and 412 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 577 confirmed, 312 probable and four deaths, five probable; Ontonagon County, 585 confirmed, 70 probable and 22 deaths, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 663 confirmed cases and 242 probable, four deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 906 confirmed cases and 467 probable, 11 deaths and one probable; Baraga County, 1,096 confirmed cases, 189 probable and 44 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,393 confirmed cases and 134 probable, 50 deaths and 11 probable; Gogebic County, 1,470 confirmed cases and 413 probable, 25 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,684 confirmed cases and 2,371 probable, and 43 deaths, nine probable; Menominee County, 2,659 confirmed cases, 878 probable and 47 deaths, five probable; Dickinson County, 3,155 confirmed cases and 1,006 probable, 67 deaths and 17 probable; Houghton County, 3,728 confirmed cases, 781 probable, 46 deaths and 10 probable; Delta County, 4,974 confirmed cases and 1,107 probable, 92 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 6,190 confirmed cases, 1,404 probable and 81 deaths, four probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Wednesday had 6,283 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of about 3,142 for the two-day period, for a total to date of 1,172,800. The state since Monday has added 163 deaths attributed to the virus — including 88 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 22,684.
The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had since Monday the 163 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 32 in Vilas County, 13 in Forest County, six in Florence County and five in Iron County. The state listed three more virus-related deaths in Vilas County and one in Forest County.
The DHS data site Thursday had Marinette County with 6,274 confirmed cases, 1,175 probable cases and 72 deaths, nine probable deaths; Vilas County, 3,055 confirmed, 173 probable and 56 deaths, four probable; Forest County, 1,450 confirmed, 119 probable and 29 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 748 confirmed, 181 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 553 confirmed, 117 probable and 14 deaths.
Wisconsin data Thursday showed 10,342 more positives in the state since Monday, or about 2,585 per day for the four days, for a total of 820,182 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 73 more virus-related deaths in the four-day period to reach 8,700.
