State lists 11 new COVID cases in Iron, 8 in Dickinson

State data Monday showed 11 more COVID-19 positives in Iron County but only eight in Dickinson County over the past three days.

Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Monday indicated 228 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Friday: 53 in Delta County, 45 in Marquette County, 39 in Houghton County, 17 in Menominee County, 15 in Chippewa County, 11 in Iron County, 10 in Gogebic County, eight in Dickinson County, seven in Mackinac County, six in Baraga County, five in Schoolcraft and Ontonagon counties, three in Alger County and two each in Luce and Keweenaw counties. The state reported two new virus-related deaths in the U.P., both in Delta County.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 28,609 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 529 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Monday had Keweenaw County at 230 confirmed cases and 34 probable, and four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 358 confirmed cases and 387 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 558 confirmed, 298 probable and four deaths, five probable; Ontonagon County, 559 confirmed, 64 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 612 confirmed cases and 215 probable, four deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 872 confirmed cases and 439 probable, 11 deaths and one probable; Baraga County, 1,025 confirmed cases, 157 probable and 44 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,329 confirmed cases and 124 probable, 47 deaths and 11 probable; Gogebic County, 1,432 confirmed cases and 410 probable, 25 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,599 confirmed cases and 2,262 probable, and 43 deaths, nine probable; Menominee County, 2,590 confirmed cases, 817 probable and 46 deaths, five probable; Dickinson County, 3,094 confirmed cases and 960 probable, 65 deaths and 17 probable; Houghton County, 3,530 confirmed cases, 744 probable, 45 deaths and 10 probable; Delta County, 4,846 confirmed cases and 1,066 probable, 89 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 5,975 confirmed cases, 1,328 probable and 77 deaths, four probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Monday had 9,313 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Friday, or an average of about 3,104 per day for the three days, for a total to date of 1,137,748. The state Monday added 65 deaths attributed to the virus — including 29 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 22,247.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Monday had 24 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 23 in Vilas County, four in Forest County, three in Iron County and one in Florence County. The state posted two new virus-related deaths in Vilas County and one in Forest County.

The DHS data site Monday had Marinette County with 5,871 confirmed cases, 1,108 probable cases and 71 deaths, nine probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,975 confirmed, 169 probable and 52 deaths, four probable; Forest County, 1,421 confirmed, 111 probable and 28 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 733 confirmed, 174 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 543 confirmed, 109 probable and 14 deaths.

Wisconsin data Monday showed 4,251 more positives in the state since Friday for a total of 794,533 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 12 more virus-related deaths in the past three days to reach 8,495.
