State: UP has 459 new COVID cases in past three days

State data Monday showed 459 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Friday, including 34 more cases in Dickinson County and 16 in Iron County.

Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Monday indicated 106 new confirmed positives in Marquette County, 83 in Delta County, 77 in Houghton County, 35 in Chippewa County, the 34 in Dickinson County, 30 in Menominee County, 26 in Gogebic County, the 16 in Iron County, 15 in Keweenaw County, nine in Schoolcraft and Alger counties, six in Baraga and Ontonagon counties, four in Mackinac County and three in Luce County. The state recorded two more deaths blamed on the virus in Mackinac County and one each in Menominee and Houghton counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 30,598 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 550 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Monday had Keweenaw County at 279 confirmed cases and 41 probable, and five confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 383 confirmed cases and 424 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 593 confirmed, 320 probable and four deaths, five probable; Ontonagon County, 596 confirmed, 77 probable and 22 deaths, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 675 confirmed cases and 251 probable, five deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 924 confirmed cases and 472 probable, 13 deaths and one probable; Baraga County, 1,116 confirmed cases, 196 probable and 44 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,428 confirmed cases and 135 probable, 50 deaths and 11 probable; Gogebic County, 1,521 confirmed cases and 413 probable, 25 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,734 confirmed cases and 2,438 probable, and 43 deaths, 10 probable; Menominee County, 2,720 confirmed cases, 913 probable and 48 deaths, five probable; Dickinson County, 3,210 confirmed cases and 1,098 probable, 67 deaths and 17 probable; Houghton County, 3,946 confirmed cases, 789 probable, 47 deaths and 10 probable; Delta County, 5,100 confirmed cases and 1,140 probable, 92 deaths and 20 probable; and Marquette County, 6,368 confirmed cases, 1,408 probable and 81 deaths, four probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS has had 21,034 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Friday, or an average of about 7,011 per day for the three-day period, for a total to date of 1,209,712. The state since Friday has added 95 deaths attributed to the virus — including 27 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 22,862.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Monday had 37 more confirmed positives in Marinette County and 20 in Vilas County.

The DHS data site Monday had Marinette County with 6,348 confirmed cases, 1,210 probable cases and 72 deaths, nine probable deaths; Vilas County, 3,090 confirmed, 173 probable and 56 deaths, four probable; Forest County, 1,459 confirmed, 124 probable and 29 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 749 confirmed, 181 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 554 confirmed, 118 probable and 14 deaths.

Wisconsin data Monday showed 6,512 more positives in the state since Friday for a total of 829,883 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 25 more virus-related deaths in the three-day period to reach 8,747.
