DIDHD: 44 new virus positives in Dickinson, 18 in Iron

Local data Wednesday showed Dickinson County in the past six days added 44 new confirmed COVID-19 positives, while Iron County had 18 more cases.

Dickinson County also has had 29 probable coronavirus positives since its last report Dec. 16, according to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department. Neither county reported a virus-related death in that time period.

In addition, Dickinson County had 184 people reclassified as recovered from the virus, while Iron County had 48 recovered cases, the DIDHD listed in its Facebook post Wednesday.

The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 3,632 confirmed positives and 1,402 probable cases to date, with 4,474 recovered, 93 deaths and 467 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 1,658 confirmed cases and 193 probables, with 1,587 recovered, 69 deaths and 195 active cases.

Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday indicated 222 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Monday: 68 in Marquette County; 29 in Chippewa County; 26 in Dickinson County; 23 in Houghton County; 16 in Delta County; 10 in Menominee County; nine in Iron County; seven in Gogebic and Baraga counties; six in Luce and Mackinac counties; and five each in Schoolcraft, Alger and Ontonagon counties. The state recorded four more deaths blamed on the virus in Houghton County and one each in Delta and Schoolcraft counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 35,342 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 641 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 344 confirmed cases and 43 probable, and 10 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 461 confirmed cases and 542 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 659 confirmed, 78 probable and 25 deaths, one probable; Alger County, 684 confirmed, 382 probable and six deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 811 confirmed cases and 373 probable, seven deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 1,084 confirmed cases and 582 probable, 17 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,259 confirmed cases, 213 probable and 45 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,654 confirmed cases and 190 probable, 57 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 1,867 confirmed cases and 428 probable, 33 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 2,065 confirmed cases and 2,935 probable, and 52 deaths, 12 probable; Menominee County, 3,040 confirmed cases, 1,112 probable and 52 deaths, eight probable; Dickinson County, 3,622 confirmed cases and 1,400 probable, 74 deaths and 18 probable; Houghton County, 4,751 confirmed cases, 859 probable, 60 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 5,740 confirmed cases and 1,295 probable, 110 deaths and 22 probable; and Marquette County, 7,301 confirmed cases, 1,681 probable and 89 deaths, five probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday had 13,686 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of about 6,843 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 1,448,523. The state since Monday added 392 deaths attributed to the virus — including 250 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 26,376.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but will not have a report this Friday due to the Christmas holiday. The next update is scheduled for Monday.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday had since Monday 54 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 25 in Vilas County, 11 in Forest County, nine in Florence County and six in Iron County. Vilas County added three more deaths blamed on the virus, while Florence and Marinette counties each had one, according to the state.

The DHS data site Wednesday had Marinette County with 7,248 confirmed cases, 1,439 probable cases and 82 deaths, 12 probable deaths; Vilas County, 3,441 confirmed, 188 probable and 64 deaths, four probable; Forest County, 1,727 confirmed, 146 probable and 36 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 831 confirmed, 213 probable and 23 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 619 confirmed, 161 probable and 15 deaths.

Wisconsin data Wednesday showed 9,087 more positives in the state since Monday for a total of 952,442 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 121 more virus-related deaths in the two-day period to reach 9,804.
