Harrington to lead Iron River police
CURT HARRINGTON
IRON RIVER — Curt T. Harrington has been appointed as the Iron River Police Department’s new chief, City Manager Rachel Andreski said.
Harrington, who has served as acting police chief since August, has 25 years of law enforcement experience, including 19 years with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office and five years with the U.S. Army military police.
He served nearly a year with IRPD before being named acting chief.
“This is an honor, but with honor comes huge responsibility to the residents,” Harrington said. “My philosophy for the IRPD is to be community based, or more involved with community relations by holding a positive public image and have professionally trained officers. The public should expect quality service because they deserve it.”
Harrington said he also looks to bring a victim-centered approach to the department, to include bringing justice and providing different social services for after-care.
“We are very fortunate to have Chief Harrington hold the reins,” Andreski said. “He has remarkable leadership and communication skills, love for people and the desire to improve our community.”
