State: 22 new virus cases in Dickinson, 12 in Iron

State data Wednesday showed 22 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County in the past two days, while Iron County had 12 news cases and one more death blamed on the virus.

Across the border in Wisconsin, state coronavirus numbers had 104 new confirmed cases in Marinette County since Friday, along with a new death.

Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday indicated 298 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Monday: 52 in Delta County, 51 in Marquette County, 42 in Houghton County, 27 in Menominee County, 24 in Chippewa County, the 22 in Dickinson County, 17 in Schoolcraft County, the 12 in Iron County, 11 in Luce and Gogebic counties, eight in Mackinac and Baraga counties, six in Keweenaw County, four in Alger County and three in Ontonagon County. The state listed two more virus-related deaths in Marquette County and one each in Iron, Houghton, Mackinac, Ontonagon and Gogebic counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 33,991 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 607 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 343 confirmed cases and 43 probable, and eight confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 432 confirmed cases and 498 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 629 confirmed, 77 probable and 24 deaths, one probable; Alger County, 656 confirmed, 362 probable and four deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 774 confirmed cases and 340 probable, six deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 1,044 confirmed cases and 543 probable, 16 deaths and one probable; Baraga County, 1,216 confirmed cases, 207 probable and 44 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,592 confirmed cases and 187 probable, 57 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 1,768 confirmed cases and 426 probable, 28 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,968 confirmed cases and 2,772 probable, and 49 deaths, 11 probable; Menominee County, 2,936 confirmed cases, 1,051 probable and 50 deaths, eight probable; Dickinson County, 3,496 confirmed cases and 1,313 probable, 71 deaths and 17 probable; Houghton County, 4,589 confirmed cases, 843 probable, 52 deaths and 10 probable; Delta County, 5,558 confirmed cases and 1,251 probable, 107 deaths and 21 probable; and Marquette County, 6,990 confirmed cases, 1,605 probable and 87 deaths, five probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS had 15,385 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of about 7,693 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 1,368,541. The state since Monday has added 351 deaths attributed to the virus — including 185 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 24,845.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday had since Friday added 104 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 36 in Forest County, 22 in Vilas County, 21 in Iron County and 16 in Florence County. Both Marinette and Vilas counties had one new death each.

The DHS data site Wednesday had Marinette County with 6,958 confirmed cases, 1,371 probable cases and 75 deaths, nine probable deaths; Vilas County, 3,313 confirmed, 187 probable and 59 deaths, four probable; Forest County, 1,653 confirmed, 141 probable and 29 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 805 confirmed, 199 probable and 22 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 598 confirmed, 143 probable and 14 deaths.

Wisconsin data Wednesday showed 12,648 more positives in the state since Friday for a total of 901,727 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 109 more virus-related deaths in that five-day period to reach 9,237.
