State: 29 new virus cases in Dickinson, 19 in Iron
State data Monday showed almost 30 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County in the past five days while Iron County had 19 more cases.
Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Monday indicated 360 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Wednesday: 88 in Marquette County, 54 in Delta County, 35 in Chippewa County, 33 in Houghton County, 29 in Dickinson County, 23 in Gogebic County, 22 in Menominee County, 19 in Iron County, 17 in Baraga County, 10 in Ontonagon County, nine in Luce and Mackinac counties, six in Schoolcraft County, four in Alger County and two in Keweenaw County.
Marquette, Baraga, Ontonagon and Houghton counties each added a single virus-related death.
Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 35,702 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 645 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Monday had Keweenaw County at 346 confirmed cases and 43 probable, and 10 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 470 confirmed cases and 554 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 669 confirmed, 78 probable and 26 deaths, one probable; Alger County, 688 confirmed, 392 probable and six deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 817 confirmed cases and 381 probable, seven deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 1,093 confirmed cases and 589 probable, 17 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,276 confirmed cases, 213 probable and 46 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,673 confirmed cases and 190 probable, 57 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 1,890 confirmed cases and 428 probable, 33 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 2,100 confirmed cases and 2,972 probable, and 52 deaths, 12 probable; Menominee County, 3,062 confirmed cases, 1,117 probable and 52 deaths, eight probable; Dickinson County, 3,651 confirmed cases and 1,425 probable, 74 deaths and 18 probable; Houghton County, 4,784 confirmed cases, 861 probable, 61 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 5,794 confirmed cases and 1,310 probable, 110 deaths and 22 probable; and Marquette County, 7,389 confirmed cases, 1,709 probable and 90 deaths, five probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Monday had 32,957 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Wednesday, or an average of about 6,591 per day for the five-day period, for a total to date of 1,481,480. The state since Wednesday added 274 deaths attributed to the virus — including 158 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 26,650.
The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but will not have a report this Friday due to the New Year’s holiday.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Monday had since Wednesday another 59 confirmed positives in Marinette County, 24 in Vilas County, two in Iron County and one in Forest County; Florence County’s count was reduced by one. The state recorded one more death each in Marinette and Vilas counties.
The DHS data site Monday had Marinette County with 7,299 confirmed cases, 1,466 probable cases and 83 deaths, 12 probable deaths; Vilas County, 3,465 confirmed, 189 probable and 65 deaths, four probable; Forest County, 1,728 confirmed, 146 probable and 36 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 833 confirmed, 212 probable and 23 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 618 confirmed, 163 probable and 15 deaths.
Wisconsin data Monday showed 14,731 more positives in the state since Wednesday — or about 2,946 a day for the five-day period — for a total of 967,173 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 124 more virus-related deaths over the five days to reach 9,928.
