Students honored

Iron Mountain High School senior Georjeana Swartout, left, and junior Aziza Burgoon have been recognized for their excellence in math and science-related studies by receiving a Certificate of Merit from the Michigan Technological University Society of Women Engineers, or SWE. They were nominated by their high school math and science instructors at IMHS. The purpose of this recognition from SWE is to help young women be aware of the valuable opportunities available to them in the STEM fields. This is a distinguished award, acknowledged by many colleges and universities as a great achievement. Both exemplify the qualities of strong academics, active school involvement and outstanding performance in both math and sciences. Georjeana is the daughter of Daniel Swartout and Paula Swartout, both of Iron Mountain. Aziza is the daughter of Paul and Fouzia Burgoon of Iron Mountain.
