Two killed in M-95 crash in Sagola Township

1 min read

IRON MOUNTAIN -- Two Iron River women were killed in a traffic crash Thursday afternoon on M-95 near Tobin Lane in Sagola Township.

Both women were in a 2003 Jeep Liberty that crossed the center line at about 2:25 p.m. and collided with a northbound semi-truck and trailer. Speed and poor road conditions appear to be the cause, Dickinson County Sheriff Scott Rutter said.

The 50-year-old driver of the Jeep and her 48-year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the site.

The 49-year-old driver of the 2022 Peterbuilt tractor was uninjured. He tried to avoid the collision, but the Jeep was struck on the passenger side and came to rest in the ditch on the east side of the highway, Rutter said.

The sheriff's office was assisted by Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain post, Sagola Fire Department, STAR Ambulance, Dickinson County Road Commission and Wilson's and Edward's Towing.

The accident remains under investigation.
