IRON MOUNTAIN -- The Dickinson County Republican Committee welcomes young people who want to have a voice in political decisions that affect their futures.
To that end, the Committee has adopted bylaws to allow 16-and 17-year-olds the full rights and responsibilities of membership in the Committee, including the ability to vote on all issues brought before it.
"Young people should know how present-day political decisions will impact their futures," said Barbara Kramer, chair of the Committee and a Dickinson County commissioner. "We will give young people who are interested in the political process the opportunity to participate as citizens, and to be able to see the impact they can have as voting members of society."
The Committee's bylaws regarding membership state: "A ... member is a resident, sixteen (16) or over, of Dickinson County who has paid their dues…" The dues are affordable for students between the ages of 16 and 22, and there is a family membership rate as well.
Committee meetings are currently held on the second Thursday of each month in the Correctional Center Conference Room, 300 East D St., Iron Mountain. The next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 10.
