State: 691 new virus positives in UP in past two days

State data Friday showed 41 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County and 14 in Iron County in the past two days, along with another death linked to the virus in each county.

Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Friday indicated 691 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Wednesday: 254 in Marquette County, 87 in Houghton County, 73 in Delta County, 72 in Chippewa County, the 41 in Dickinson County, 35 in Gogebic County, 29 in Baraga County, 24 in Ontonagon County, 21 in Menominee County, the 14 in Iron County, 13 in Mackinac County, 11 in Alger County, nine in Luce County and eight in Schoolcraft County. The state posted two more virus-related deaths in Houghton County and one each in Dickinson, Iron, Delta, Menominee, Chippewa and Mackinac counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 38,005 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 680 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 362 confirmed cases and 43 probable, and 10 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 504 confirmed cases and 589 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 709 confirmed, 87 probable and 27 deaths, one probable; Alger County, 746 confirmed, 449 probable and six deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 847 confirmed cases and 430 probable, eight deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 1,160 confirmed cases and 636 probable, 21 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,348 confirmed cases, 221 probable and 46 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,761 confirmed cases and 200 probable, 60 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 1,997 confirmed cases and 437 probable, 34 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 2,296 confirmed cases and 3,356 probable, and 60 deaths, 12 probable; Menominee County, 3,172 confirmed cases, 1,212 probable and 55 deaths, eight probable; Dickinson County, 3,825 confirmed cases and 1,567 probable, 76 deaths and 18 probable; Houghton County, 5,008 confirmed cases, 886 probable, 65 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 6,064 confirmed cases and 1,427 probable, 116 deaths and 22 probable; and Marquette County, 8,206 confirmed cases, 1,955 probable and 92 deaths, five probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday had 40,692 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Wednesday, or an average of 20,346 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 1,636,611. The state since Wednesday added 259 deaths attributed to the virus — including 136 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 27,822.

The MDHHS issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region Friday, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site since Thursday had 80 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 59 in Vilas County, 17 in Forest County, and five each in Florence and Iron counties.

The DHS data site Friday had Marinette County with 7,734 confirmed cases, 1,612 probable cases and 85 deaths, 13 probable deaths; Vilas County, 3,723 confirmed, 216 probable and 66 deaths, four probable; Forest County, 1,834 confirmed, 158 probable and 39 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 863 confirmed, 215 probable and 23 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 647 confirmed, 182 probable and 15 deaths.

Wisconsin data Friday showed 12,725 more positives in the state — another one-day record for the state this week, topping the figure set just a day earlier — for a total of 1,048,267 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The DHS recorded 18 more virus-related deaths Friday to reach 10,271.
