State: 98 new virus cases in Dickinson, 60 in Iron

State data Friday showed 98 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County and 60 in Iron County since Wednesday, as the Upper Peninsula added 1,211 new cases for the two-day period.

Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Friday indicated 358 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Marquette County, 195 in Delta County, 164 in Houghton County, 98 in Dickinson County, 84 in Chippewa County, 73 in Menominee County, 61 in Gogebic County, 60 in Iron County, 47 in Mackinac County, 23 in Baraga County, 16 in Alger County, 11 in Luce County, nine in Keweenaw County, eight in Schoolcraft County and four in Ontonagon County. The state listed 11 more virus-related deaths in the U.P.: three in Chippewa County, two in Delta and Schoolcraft counties and one each in Luce, Houghton, Ontonagon and Gogebic counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 44,776 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 719 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 407 confirmed cases and 47 probable, and 10 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 580 confirmed cases and 675 probable, six confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 799 confirmed, 97 probable and 30 deaths, two probable; Alger County, 915 confirmed, 588 probable and six deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 974 confirmed cases and 537 probable, 11 deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 1,343 confirmed cases and 765 probable, 23 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,547 confirmed cases, 252 probable and 49 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,009 confirmed cases and 240 probable, 61 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 2,442 confirmed cases and 463 probable, 35 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 2,763 confirmed cases and 4,282 probable, and 66 deaths, 13 probable; Menominee County, 3,510 confirmed cases, 1,443 probable and 56 deaths, eight probable; Dickinson County, 4,380 confirmed cases and 2,085 probable, 78 deaths and 18 probable; Houghton County, 5,922 confirmed cases, 1,000 probable, 71 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,064 confirmed cases and 1,794 probable, 120 deaths and 23 probable; and Marquette County, 10,121 confirmed cases, 2,694 probable and 97 deaths, five probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday had 33,551 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Wednesday, or an average of about 16,776 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 1,866,267. The state since Wednesday added 210 deaths attributed to the virus — including 79 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 29,190.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Upper Peninsula as of Friday had 75 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 12 adults in intensive care and four on ventilators, according to Frontline UPdates JIC, a group of health care communication professionals from the U.P.

Statewide Friday, 4,173 adults were hospitalized with COVID-19 — plus 113 pediatric patients — with 728 adults in ICU beds and 466 on ventilators.
