DIDHD: 111 new virus cases in Dickinson, 46 more in Iron
Local data Thursday showed in the past week Dickinson County had 111 new COVID-19 positives and another death attributed to the virus, while Iron County had 46 new cases and two more deaths.
But the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department numbers released Thursday morning do indicate the rate of new coronavirus infections continues to decline in both counties, down by 38 cases in Dickinson County and 33 in Iron County since the previous report Feb. 3. Dickinson County also had 23 probable cases.
In addition, Dickinson County had 213 people reclassified as recovered from the virus, while Iron County had 39 recoveries, the DIDHD listed in its Facebook post Thursday.
The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 4,909 confirmed positives and 2,332 probable cases to date, with 5,500 recovered, 102 deaths and 1,639 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 2,255 confirmed cases to date and 328 probables, with 1,974 recovered, 79 deaths and 530 active cases.
COVID-19 hospitalizations are trending downward as well. The Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday had 53 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 14 adults in intensive care and three on ventilators, according to Frontline UPdates JIC, a group of health care communication professionals from the U.P.
Statewide Tuesday, 2,438 adults were hospitalized with COVID-19 — plus 62 pediatric patients — with 483 adults in ICU beds and 290 on ventilators.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Thursday had Marinette County at 11,327 COVID-19 positives, up 38 since Wednesday, and 104 deaths; Vilas County, 5,087 positives, up 10, and 83 deaths; Forest County, 2,626 positives, up 11, and 47 deaths; Iron County, 1,449, up one, and 45 deaths; and Florence County, 1,054 positives, up 11, and 15 deaths.
