DIDHD: 3 more virus deaths in Dickinson, even as cases slow

Local data Thursday showed that in the past week Dickinson County had 47 new confirmed COVID-19 positives, less than half what it saw the week before, but added three deaths attributed to the virus.

Iron County has had 25 new coronavirus cases since the last report Feb. 10, according to Dickinson-Iron District Health Department numbers released Thursday morning.

In another sign the peak of virus activity in the region has passed, Dickinson County had 541 people reclassified as recovered from the virus and Iron County 174 recoveries, the DIDHD listed in its Facebook post Thursday.

Dickinson County also had 28 probable cases and Iron County nine probables.

The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 4,956 confirmed positives and 2,360 probable cases to date, with 6,041 recovered, 105 deaths and 1,170 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 2,280 confirmed cases to date and 337 probables, with 2,148 recovered, 79 deaths and 390 active cases.

COVID-19 hospitalizations are trending downward as well. The Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday had 47 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including seven adults in intensive care and one on a ventilator, according to Frontline UPdates JIC, a group of health care communication professionals from the U.P.

Statewide Tuesday, 1,903 adults were hospitalized with COVID-19 — plus 51 pediatric patients — with 338 adults in ICU beds and 196 on ventilators.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Thursday had Marinette County at 11,429 COVID-19 positives, up 12 since Wednesday, and 108 deaths, up one; Vilas County, 5,132 positives, up 10, and 85 deaths; Forest County, 2,653 positives, up three, and 49 deaths; Iron County, 1,454 positives, up two, and 45 deaths; and Florence County, 1,066 positives, up three, and 15 deaths.
