State: 21 new virus cases in Dickinson, 9 in Iron
State data Friday showed Dickinson County added 21 confirmed COVID-19 positives and Iron County only nine new cases in the past two days, continuing the slowdown in coronavirus activity in both counties.
Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Friday indicated 230 new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula since Wednesday: 54 in Marquette County; 46 in Delta County; 30 in Chippewa County; 21 in Dickinson County; 16 in Menominee and Houghton counties; nine in Iron County; eight in Schoolcraft, Ontonagon and Mackinac counties; four in Baraga, Luce and Gogebic counties; and one in Alger and Keweenaw counties. The state posted two more virus-related deaths in Houghton County and one more each in Delta, Alger, Chippewa, Ontonagon and Baraga counties; Mackinac County’s toll was reduced by one.
Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 49,806 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 766 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 444 confirmed cases and 52 probable, and 11 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 637 confirmed cases and 740 probable, seven confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 852 confirmed, 101 probable and 33 deaths, two probable; Alger County, 1,009 confirmed, 655 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,056 confirmed cases and 645 probable, 11 deaths and two probable; Mackinac County, 1,484 confirmed cases and 828 probable, 25 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,664 confirmed cases, 318 probable and 51 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,255 confirmed cases and 328 probable, 66 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 2,664 confirmed cases and 516 probable, 36 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,240 confirmed cases and 4,898 probable, and 73 deaths, 15 probable; Menominee County, 3,775 confirmed cases, 1,651 probable and 59 deaths, nine probable; Dickinson County, 4,910 confirmed cases and 2,336 probable, 82 deaths and 20 probable; Houghton County, 6,529 confirmed cases, 1,063 probable, 76 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,733 confirmed cases and 2,012 probable, 124 deaths and 25 probable; and Marquette County, 11,554 confirmed cases, 2,964 probable and 104 deaths, eight probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Friday had 5,716 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Wednesday, or an average of 2,858 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 2,032,362. The state since Wednesday added 152 deaths attributed to the virus — including 110 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 30,899.
The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Friday had Marinette County at 11,356 COVID-19 positives, up 29 since Thursday, and 105 deaths, up one; Vilas County, 5,096 positives, up nine, and 83 deaths; Forest County, 2,634 positives, up eight, and 47 deaths; Iron County, 1,450, up one, and 45 deaths; and Florence County, 1,057 positives, up three, and 15 deaths.
