State adds five virus deaths in Iron County
State health statistics have listed five more deaths blamed on COVID-19 in Iron County.
Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday indicated 13 more virus-related deaths in the Upper Peninsula: the five in Iron County; two in Chippewa County; and one apiece in Dickinson, Delta, Marquette, Houghton, Luce and Baraga counties.
The MDHHS data site also had 646 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Monday: 153 in Marquette County, 117 in Delta County, 73 in Chippewa County, 67 in Houghton County, 53 in Dickinson County, 42 in Menominee County, 26 in Gogebic County, 23 in Mackinac County, 21 in Iron County, 20 in Alger County, 18 in Baraga County, 14 in Schoolcraft County, 11 in Luce County, five in Ontonagon County and three in Keweenaw County.
Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 48,620 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 748 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 436 confirmed cases and 51 probable, and 11 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 623 confirmed cases and 722 probable, seven confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 833 confirmed, 98 probable and 32 deaths, two probable; Alger County, 993 confirmed, 645 probable and seven deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,023 confirmed cases and 615 probable, 11 deaths and two probable; Mackinac County, 1,457 confirmed cases and 812 probable, 24 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,637 confirmed cases, 302 probable and 50 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,191 confirmed cases and 323 probable, 66 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 2,621 confirmed cases and 508 probable, 35 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,117 confirmed cases and 4,742 probable, and 71 deaths, 13 probable; Menominee County, 3,699 confirmed cases, 1,605 probable and 59 deaths, nine probable; Dickinson County, 4,771 confirmed cases and 2,288 probable, 80 deaths and 19 probable; Houghton County, 6,412 confirmed cases, 1,057 probable, 72 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,556 confirmed cases and 1,950 probable, 121 deaths and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 11,251 confirmed cases, 2,934 probable and 102 deaths, eight probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Wednesday had 18,803 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of about 9,402 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 1,999,416. The state since Monday added 327 deaths attributed to the virus — including 239 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 30,170.
The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County at 11,111 COVID-19 positives, up 90 since Monday, and 102 deaths; Vilas County, 4,973 positives, up 33 for the two-day period, and 83 deaths; Forest County, 2,565 positives, up 26, and 47 deaths; Iron County, 1,428, up 18, and 45 deaths; and Florence County, 1,023 positives, up 18, and 15 deaths.
Statewide, the DHS has had 1,526,087 positive COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin to date and 12,509 virus-related deaths.
