Area schools take part in the concert music festival

IRON MOUNTAIN — Students from area schools participated in a Wisconsin School Music Association sanctioned concert music festival hosted Wednesday at Iron Mountain High School.

During the festival, each school’s concert ensemble groups performed before a panel of adjudicators while students from other schools listened in as part of their own learning experience.

The festival drew concert bands and choirs from a number of area schools, including Aspen Ridge Middle School, Carney-Nadeau High School, Carney-Nadeau Middle School, Central Middle School, Forest Park Middle School, Franklin High School, Gwinn High School, Hancock Central High School, Houghton High School, Houghton Middle School, Iron Mountain High School, Jeffers High School, Kingsford High School, Kingsford Middle School, Niagara High School, Niagara Junior High School, North Dickinson County High School, Norway High School, Pembine High School, Pembine Middle School, Phelps High School, Republic-Michigamme High School, Vulcan Middle School, West Iron County High School and Westwood High School.

Craig Recla, music director from Iron Mountain High School, served as the festival manager.

This opportunity, coupled with observing and listening to peer performances, is invaluable for musical growth,” said WSMA Executive Director Laurie Fellenz.
