Dickinson down to only 18 active COVID cases

Local COVID-19 data Friday showed only 13 new confirmed positives in Dickinson County and four in Iron County in the past eight days.

Iron County, however, recorded two more deaths blamed on the virus and Dickinson County one since March 3, according to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department.

Dickinson County is now down to only 18 active COVID-19 cases after reclassifying 290 people as recovered from the virus, the DIDHD posted on its Facebook page Friday. Iron County had 69 recoveries but still has 54 listed as active.

The DIDHD on Friday had Dickinson County at 4,996 confirmed positives and 2,382 probable cases to date, with 7,252 recovered, 108 deaths and 18 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 2,304 confirmed cases to date and 341 probables, with 2,506 recovered, 85 deaths and 54 active cases.

At the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Friday added 76 more confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula since Wednesday: 13 in Marquette County; 11 in Delta, Menominee and Houghton counties; six in Mackinac County; five in Alger County; four in Chippewa and Gogebic counties; three in Schoolcraft County; two in Dickinson, Luce, Ontonagon and Baraga counties; and one in Iron County; Keweenaw County’s count was reduced by one. The only change in deaths was to lower Marquette County’s toll by one.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 50,953 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 812 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 450 confirmed cases and 53 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 657 confirmed cases and 763 probable, nine confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 867 confirmed, 104 probable and 34 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,048 confirmed, 659 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,079 confirmed cases and 669 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Mackinac County, 1,538 confirmed cases and 834 probable, 27 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,708 confirmed cases, 319 probable and 51 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,299 confirmed cases and 338 probable, 70 deaths and 16 probable; Gogebic County, 2,721 confirmed cases and 522 probable, 39 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,361 confirmed cases and 5,049 probable, and 82 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 3,876 confirmed cases, 1,689 probable and 60 deaths, nine probable; Dickinson County, 4,984 confirmed cases and 2,378 probable, 85 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 6,648 confirmed cases, 1,077 probable, 78 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,865 confirmed cases and 2,039 probable, 130 deaths and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 11,852 confirmed cases, 3,026 probable and 114 deaths, 10 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday had 1,819 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Wednesday, or an average of about 910 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 2,065,912. The state since Wednesday added 45 deaths attributed to the virus — including 38 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 32,419.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Friday had Marinette County at 11,531 COVID-19 positives, up 14 since Wednesday, and 114 deaths; Vilas County, 5,188 positives, up one, and 87 deaths; Forest County, unchanged at 2,666 positives and 50 deaths; Iron County, unchanged at 1,461 positives and 47 deaths; and Florence County, 1,077 positives, up one, and 16 deaths, up one.
