State: No new virus positives in Dickinson, two in Iron
State data Wednesday showed Dickinson County with no new confirmed COVID-19 positives since Monday but another death blamed on the coronavirus, while Iron County added two confirmed cases.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday had 44 new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula since Monday: 10 in Houghton County; nine in Marquette County; five in Chippewa County; four in Menominee and Mackinac counties; two in Delta, Iron, Luce, Ontonagon and Alger counties; and one in Baraga and Gogebic counties. The state listed another virus-related death in Dickinson and Chippewa counties.
Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 51,032 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 815 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 451 confirmed cases and 53 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 660 confirmed cases and 763 probable, nine confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 870 confirmed, 104 probable and 34 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,051 confirmed, 660 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,080 confirmed cases and 668 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Mackinac County, 1,542 confirmed cases and 835 probable, 27 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,708 confirmed cases, 319 probable and 51 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,305 confirmed cases and 338 probable, 70 deaths and 16 probable; Gogebic County, 2,722 confirmed cases and 522 probable, 39 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,373 confirmed cases and 5,054 probable, and 83 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 3,883 confirmed cases, 1,686 probable and 60 deaths, nine probable; Dickinson County, 4,982 confirmed cases and 2,378 probable, 86 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 6,662 confirmed cases, 1,080 probable, 78 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,871 confirmed cases and 2,038 probable, 130 deaths and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 11,872 confirmed cases, 3,030 probable and 115 deaths, 10 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Wednesday had 1,540 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of 770 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 2,068,817. The state since Monday added 118 deaths attributed to the virus — including 107 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 32,561.
The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County at 11,551 COVID-19 positives, up 11 since Monday, and 114 deaths; Vilas County, 5,191 positives, up two, and 87 deaths; Forest County, 2,667 positives, up one, and 50 deaths; Iron County, 1,462 positives, up one, and 47 deaths; and Florence County, unchanged at 1,076 positives and 16 deaths.
