State: No reports of virus activity in Dickinson, Iron in past 5 days
State data Wednesday showed no new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Iron County since Friday and actually dropped Dickinson County’s count by one.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday added 37 confirmed positives to the Upper Peninsula’s tally since Friday: 12 in Marquette County; 11 in Chippewa County; five in Houghton County; four in Mackinac County; two in Delta, Gogebic and Baraga counties; and one in Luce County; counts were reduced by one in Dickinson and Alger counties. The state listed two deaths blamed on the virus in Delta County and one each in Houghton, Luce and Chippewa counties; Schoolcraft County’s toll was lowered by one.
Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 51,342 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 832 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 458 confirmed cases and 55 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 662 confirmed cases and 762 probable, 11 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 879 confirmed, 104 probable and 35 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,055 confirmed, 659 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,084 confirmed cases and 666 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Mackinac County, 1,564 confirmed cases and 842 probable, 28 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,722 confirmed cases, 317 probable and 51 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,310 confirmed cases and 333 probable, 71 deaths and 16 probable; Gogebic County, 2,732 confirmed cases and 521 probable, 40 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,423 confirmed cases and 5,068 probable, and 87 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 3,941 confirmed cases, 1,680 probable and 60 deaths, 10 probable; Dickinson County, 4,984 confirmed cases and 2,378 probable, 86 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 6,708 confirmed cases, 1,088 probable, 80 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,890 confirmed cases and 2,031 probable, 133 deaths and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 11,930 confirmed cases, 3,028 probable and 117 deaths, 10 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Wednesday had 3,759 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since Friday, or an average of about 752 per day for the five-day period, for a total of 2,393,265 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for that period added 70 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 35,776.
The state for months had updated COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but starting this week switched to Wednesdays only.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County at 11,581 COVID-19 positives, up seven since Friday, and 122 deaths; Vilas County, 5,214 positives, up five, and 89 deaths; Forest County, unchanged at 2,668 positives and 51 deaths; Iron County, 1,467 positives, up one, and 47 deaths; and Florence County, 1,083 positives, up two, and 16 deaths.
