Surprise birthday performance

The Kingsford High School Band marched down Hamilton Avenue on Tuesday to present a 90th birthday surprise to former high school principal Clyde Peterson. Peterson served as principal from 1971 to 1994. The band performed “Happy Birthday” and the Kingsford fight song. Peterson’s daughter, Mary Kowatch, contacted retired band director Ben Sherk, who worked at the school with Peterson, to help organize the surprise. (Mary Kowatch photo)
